Los Angeles based artist, Lauv, gave an exhilarating performance at the Wiltern. I had listened to him years ago, but honestly had overlooked him as an artist recently. With the opportunity to attend his concert at the Wiltern, I was quickly reminded as to why I started listening to him in the first place. With his poppy electronic and RnB sound it’s hard to not be immediately drawn into each song and by listening to the lyrics closely it’s obvious to see how much thought he puts into every word.  I learned two things that Saturday night: Lauv loved to perform and he had a deep passion for mental health awareness. All night he danced around the stage while self-proclaiming himself as a “terrible dancer,” but that didn’t stop him because he was all smiles as he energetically travelled across the stage. As well, with sharing his personal story of suffering from depression and OCD, he talked about his “My Blue Thoughts” project where people can go onto the website or visit the private booths after the concert and share anything they desire in order to let go of whatever it is that’s holding them down. Lauv took time to explain his upcoming album’s cover, which shows a large image of him in all white and miniature versions of himself adorning different colors to represent his many personalities. He said that he doesn’t believe everyone is made up of one thing, but that we all are comprised of various things, so it’s ok to have different personalities and feelings.  He performed some of his classics such as, “I Like Me Better,” “The Other,” “Easy Love,” and “Paris in the Rain” along with songs from his upcoming album such as, “Drugs and the Internet,” “Sims,” “Feelings,” “i’m so tired…” and “Sad Forever.”  His upcoming album,_~how i’m feeling~_, is set to release on March 6, 2020.
