After having an amazing start to her career, with a hit single back in 2016 ‘ Gold’ we wanted to catch up with the 23 year old singer to find out the story behind her music and whats to come for her new single “Be Somebody“ with Nicky Romero and Steve Aoki... Check out her BTS! **Being from a small town Wilmington, Illinois, how do you think that has influenced you as an artist and your body of work?** Well, there really wasn't much to do.  I found my passion for music early, so I spent a lot of time listening to music, playing guitar and songwriting.  Music was my escape from boredom, lol.  **After your breakout single in 2016 ‘Gold’ which was a huge success and with your latest single 2018 ‘Messy,’ we can definitely hear a different sense of direction in your latest song collaboration with ‘Be Somebody.’ What inspired you with that?**  I simply love music.  All kinds.  I never want to be restricted to one sound. There’s an endless number of ways a song can go and I don’t want to limit myself.  I love writing and creating music, and Be Somebody was a real collaborative effort between, Steve, Nicky, myself, and a few other incredibly talented people. What you hear is a combination of all of our styles and tastes.    **Being launched from the Soundcloud world, how do you think that that particular platform has helped you as an artist?** SoundCloud allowed me to share my music with the world. Early on, I wrote many songs with my friends and recorded them in a closet without a care in the world and to think someone across the world was listening to my music was unreal to me.  **What was it like working with Steve Aoki and Nicky Romero, do you feel like you have taught each other new things musically?** I consider Steve and Nicky friends. We've known each other for a while now and we've always talked about doing a record together.  We just combined our styles of music and something special came out of it with Be Somebody. **How would you say you approach the visual aesthetics to your work and your involvement in your music videos?** I'm pretty involved in my music videos from selection and creation of the treatments all the way down to the editing process.  Once a video is released, it’s out there forever, so I try to make sure I love it first and hope other people feel the same way. **What can we expect from you with your upcoming projects?** Expect a lot more music from me.  I have been in the studio nonstop for the past 3 years, working on my album. I am really excited for people to hear it. You can purchase the single [here](https://ffm.to/aoki-besomebody) * * * Written by: Lily BUrdis
