YSL Haute couture has extensive collections spanning all the way back from the birth of the label. The late Bergé told in one of his last interviews how he kept images from the very beginning. The archive includes apparel, accessories, and early sketches from every Yves Saint Laurent collection— also embodying other materials like sales ledgers and Polaroid photos taken backstage at each show.  A curated selection of these behind-the-scenes Polaroids is being combined into a book published by Phaidon and established by Patrick Mauriés; It's titled _Yves Saint Laurent Accessories_. These historic photos will feature close-up shots of each model, their name written, the show season, and their position in running order.  © Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent, Paris/All Rights Reserved ![© Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent, Paris/All Rights Reserved](https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/62ee0bbe0c783a903ecc0ddb/6472af927f34ac9eb128094c_369968.jpeg) © Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent, Paris/All Rights Reserved * * * When Saint Laurent was designing, he imagined every look wasn’t complete without wondrous accessories. Mauriés expands on how Saint Laurent would not sketch his accessory designs the same he did apparel, yet had vivid ideas of how these pieces would come alive. Admired designers and jewelry makers from the past collaborated with the label to construct these fine pieces. Saint Laurent stated back in 1977, “One can never overstate the importance of accessories, they are what turn a dress into something else. I like dresses to be sober and accessories to be wild.”  The soon-to-be famed Polaroids featured in _Yves Saint Laurent Accessories_ attest to his belief in the power of accessories. The photos span from the 1980s to 2002, the year Saint Laurent did his final show for the label. You can see models portraying the story behind their outfits, showing off their hats, jewelry, and more to the camera. _Yves Saint Laurent: Accessories_ by Patrick Mauriés will release on October 2, 2017, published by Phaidon.  * * * Written by Alex Ceballos Photos via © Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent, Paris
