Made x Rodarte | Fred Segal Exclusive

by Larry Armstrong-Kizzee

Just in time for Throwback Thursday, Rodarte and Made teamed up to create a capsule collection reminiscent of the 80’s. Available exclusively at Fred Segal retail stores, the collection features artwork by Mari Eastman along with vivid colors and athletic influence that shaped 80’s fashion. While the styles represented the turn of the last century, elements of technology ground the collection in the present; as Master Card provided hang tags named Block Chain’s show customers insight into each garments production with the snap of a photo.

For the premier show, disco balls and neon lights welcomed guests as they were tempted to indulge in what seemed like a carnival fit for the nostalgic. Between the cotton candy and popcorn treats, classic arcade games, and a Fred Segal pop-up that mimicked the standard 80’s-teenage room, the center of the space held the runway; or in this case: roll-way. Following the first round of models wearing collection selects with vintage pulls, several entered on skates, doing flips, tricks, and moves that made us all wish we were on skates too. The show ended only to reveal the what was arguably the greatest treat of the night: Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles playing every classic you could think of. The night closed with a crowd-choir rendition of hits like “Manic Monday” and some final attempts to win prizes from the claw game, reminding us all of the days of “please mom just 10 more minutes?”

The collection is available at Fred Segal, 8500 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, from August 2nd - August 14, 2019
