It's a common misconception that the world is moving away from art. While some artists may feel threatened by new technology, many are exploring how to use it in their work. Contemporary artist Punkmetender wholeheartedly believes that the world will always need artists regardless of how advanced technology may get. This experimental artist observes that technology just broadens the horizon, offering artists limitless opportunities to showcase their talents. That’s why he works hard to promote new talent in the physical and digital spaces as well.
Punkmetender likes to promote freedom and love through provocative and insightful artwork. His work addresses various societal issues, connecting people through stories delivered on canvas. Based in Los Angeles, California, Punkmetender has made street art with Mr. Brainwash for 17 years. Art is what he knows and loves and what he is always ready to fight for regardless of the cost. Every day as an artist teaches him discipline, motivation, passion, and self-belief. He also plans to pass on these values to the next generation of artists, a group he is committed to raising. Punkmetender believes that will require the concerted effort of many stakeholders in the industry, both in the physical and digital spaces. He says, “Together, we rise, we love, we share, the moon.”
Punkmetender is doing his part to actualize that dream. Right now, he is in the process of creating a new NFT community called PUNKANGELSNFT. The project’s mission is to incubate new talents, guiding up-and-coming artists to master the learning curve and establish themselves. The community will consist of artists from all backgrounds, established and newcomers, who are willing to create change in the art space. The community will push the talents they want to see succeed, promoting and producing them until that happens.
The PUNKANGELSNFT project is a collection of 8,888 unique Punk Angels built on the Ethereum blockchain. The collection combines Punkmetender’s signature Butterfly Wings in 3D, each with 380+ unique hand-drawn traits. Speaking of the first Punk Angel, Punkmetender says, “Her butterfly wings are a representation of change, renewal, and freedom: the spirit of the collection.” He adds that each of the angels represents something, from women empowerment, equality, fashion, etc. The project welcomes everyone with a desire to see things change and has already attracted thousands of artists and celebrities.
Outside the digital space, Punkmetender plans to continue expanding his projects to a broader audience. Fashion is one of his passions, one he hopes to explore more in the future. Punkmetender says he would love to design for an haute couture brand someday. He also hopes to get the opportunity to build his masterpiece, something like a public monument for the city of Los Angeles.
