Artist duo Nicolette Mishkan and Aescheah DeMartino just released a selection of new works depicting their latex clad figure Permaid. Continuing the narrative of a washed ashore mermaid adopted by a Persian family in Malibu, we see her crossing the desert, befriending a snake, and wearing Les Lalanne circa Yves Saint Laurent-esque body casts. The project has become a way for the artists to explore the parallels between self and humanity. Permaid was also used to bring forth a conversation as well as advance Mishkan and DeMartino’s eco activism.
