The new song and video, "[Thrash The West](https://orcd.co/thrashthewest)," by Lawrence Rothman, featuring Amanda Shires, is out now. This release accompanies the announcement of Rothman’s new album [_Good Morning, America_](https://orcd.co/goodmorningamerica), that comes out July 16, and will feature Girlpool, Caroline Rose, Lucinda Williams, Mary Lattimore, and, of course, Amanda Shires.
_"_'Thrash The West' details how I came to terms with the childhood trauma of sexual abuse from a teacher, and how I found an opportunity to heal after decades through a chance meeting with a poet/healer whom had been through the same experience," says Rothman of the new single, "through many FaceTime sessions during COVID, this helped me find a new solace and healing from the fracases of pain. I then wrote the song 'Thrash The West' about coming to terms with, and finding a new way to compartmentalize, the demon that has haunted me."
The single and album alike describe the world as it ought to be in the post-pandemic, post-Trump era: “where you don't have to check a male or female box ever fucking again and bands can sound like Tom Petty and Anohni on the same record." It's a sonic landscape, and it emphasizes equality and freedom of expression above all.
