The inaugural Women in Science and Culture virtual celebration and fundraiser will take part on February 18th hosted by the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County. The virtual event next will honor Chicana activist, artist, and muralist Barbara Carrasco, and seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones, founder of the Dr. Lucy Jones Center for Science and Society, for their exemplary work in the fields of art and science.
Attendees will view a live fireside chat with the honorees and NHMLAC President and Director Dr. Lori Bettison-Varga. Funds raised will support STEAM education to support young women through a girls-only Adventures in Nature camp. The evening will also include a performance by Los Lobos, a message from Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis, and an interactive look at Barbara Carrasco's vibrant mural, _L.A. History: A Mexican Perspective_.
