Year after year, decade after decade, the DMV continues to pump out groundbreaking bands that demand our attention. From Bad Brains, Minor Threat and Scream to The Dismemberment Plan, the combination of heavy-hearted artistry, outside the box influences and an undying desire to be heard and felt is unmatched anywhere else in the country. Perhaps there's something in the water? Whatever it is, music fans with a taste for something rare, something new, continue to reap the benefits. VOSH is the latest to emerge in this long lineage of bands that shouldn't be missed. Often categorized as a "refreshing take on the goth/industrial genres" and even, "sinister synth pop", they can't really be put in a box. All we know is their music is mysterious, seductive and breathtaking.

The band was conceived by Chris Moore (Repulsion) and Josephine Olivia (Blacksage) in Washington DC, and explodes with sexual energy, aggression, longing and sheer power. Layers of electrifying guitars, heavy synths, thunderous drums, and Josephine’s unmistakably commanding voice create a haunting landscape. Built on muscle and sweat, VOSH is synchronized, like an industrial machine, fusing the grace and finesse of a living breathing force. Their debut album, VESSEL, put out by Brookyln indie label, Trash Casual, is a testament to that force, summoning something sinister and sexy, blazing their own trail in the darkwave / goth / industrial arena. The band has been on tour nonstop all year and have received a wave of high profile support from the likes of REVOLVER, Metal Hammer, Invisible Oranges and MTV. Word of their must-see live shows has been spreading fast.

The music video for their latest single, "Superstition," embodies the captivating mix of beauty and darkness that VOSH expertly operates within. Speaking on it, the band offers:

"'Superstition' is one of the first songs we wrote together, carving out a permanent place in our hearts. It evokes a mysteriously sensual landscape with valleys and peaks, an underlying driving and electrifying motion that bends and bows but never breaks. It continually courses, connecting mind, body and spirit- something stimulating, now visually visceral by way of video. We decided to shoot it at Ottobar which has now been the location of 3 of our videos. It’s like a second home to us. Our friends Faiza and Bryan shot everything and we couldn’t be more thrilled with how it came out. It’s meant to be a bit of a head fuck- are the dancers real or hallucinated?  Is the space imagined, liminal or tangible? We wanted it to feel magical and all powerful- something ephemeral yet deeply memorable. Our friends Missy and Eden are the stars- both are spectacular dancers and phenomenal people, so overall it was very enjoyable to shoot. In the end, it feels like a lucid fever dream- one wrought with sapphic seduction and tantalizing temptation that’s a little fuzzy around the edges.”
