There is a moment most people pass through twice a day without noticing. The few seconds before sleep fully takes hold, or before waking pulls you back into the world, when you are not quite either. OLIWIA MOON noticed. She recorded it.
"Lucid Dream," her single released May 20, is a self-produced melodic techno track built entirely around that threshold. The concept sounds simple until you consider how few artists would think to go there, and fewer still would know what to do once they arrived. OLIWIA wrote it alone, worked on it alone, and released it on her own terms, which in an industry that runs on collaboration and committee approval reads almost as a provocation.
Charting at number 47 on Beatport's Techno Peak Time / Driving Top 100 within 24 hours of release puts "Lucid Dream" alongside established names in one of electronic music's most competitive categories. For an independent release with no label infrastructure behind it, that kind of placement is not accidental. It reflects both the quality of the production and a listener base that found the track and stayed with it.
The production is entirely her own, and it sounds like it. Spacious and precise, equally at home in a club or through headphones at 2am, "Lucid Dream" doesn't chase a trend so much as carve out its own atmospheric pocket inside the melodic techno space. There is a patience to it. OLIWIA isn't rushing you anywhere. The track opens up gradually, pulling the listener further in without ever tipping into the obvious.
That instinct-first approach shows in how the music behaves. It's open enough to absorb whatever the listener brings to it and atmospheric enough to take them somewhere they didn't expect to go. "I wanted to bottle that moment between waking up and falling asleep, where you feel as if you are somewhere else," she says. It's a very specific kind of ambition. The in-between state she's describing is real and almost uncanny, which makes the feeling seemingly impossible to describe. Capturing it by sound instead is a testament to her creative process.
Space and introspection have become recurring touchstones in MOON’S music, becoming fluid throughout her work rather than decoration. Instead of chasing a sound, OLIWIA is trying to immerse listeners into one. It’s easier said than done, and is often what can separate memorable artists from everyone else. If “Lucid Dream” is any indication, OLIWIA is heading in that direction.
OLIWIA MOON is one to watch in a techno landscape that is always hungry for new voices, and on the strength of "Lucid Dream," she is already making a case for a seat at the table alongside some of the genre's most recognizable names.
