In the vast landscape of life, some individuals compose a symphony so inspiring that it resonates across continents. Such is the journey of Nuojun Wang, a virtuoso pianist whose music has echoed from the bustling streets of Shenyang, China, to the grandeur of Salle Cortot in Paris.

Nuojun's story begins in the city where renowned pianist Lang Lang was born. “There was a great mass fervor of playing and learning piano lessons in my generation because of Lang Lang,” notes Nuojun. “Even though I wasn't born into a musical family, my family often bought me music magazines and CDs and went to concerts with me. One day, I asked my mom if I could have piano lessons. I still remember her asking me if I would promise to practice the piano and never give up,” Nuojun says. She agreed, and little did her parents know that this commitment would become the backbone of her successful career.

“After clinching first prize at the Hong Kong International Invitation Piano Competition at the age of sixteen, I decided to choose a career in music,” Nuojun remembers. There is where her life took an extraordinary turn. With dreams as vast as the ocean that separated her from the United States, Nuojun embarked on a journey to study music in America.

In 2014, Wang embarked on a musical journey by participating in a prestigious music festival in New York. This remarkable experience brought her the privilege of studying under the tutelage of Chu-Fang Huang, a world-renowned pianist, in the vibrant city of Philadelphia. This immersive and transformative experience set the stage for her future musical endeavors and personal growth.

“I later studied and earned my bachelor’s degree from Boston Conservatory at Berklee. In the year I got in (2016), Boston Conservatory at Berklee merged with Berklee College of Music into one musical institution. So not only did I learn classical music (piano), but I also learned different genres of music (jazz/improvisations) and about musicians from all over the world,” narrates Nuojun. This expanded her musical horizons. Under the guidance of her professor, Dr. Jonathan Bass, she honed her classical piano skills while exploring different genres and cultures. This eclectic blend of influences only enriched her performances, bestowing her a unique musical language.

One of Nuojun’s most memorable milestones in her career includes her solo performances on July 28th and 30th, 2022, of Chopin’s Polonaise Op.26 No.1 and Brahms's late piano work Op.119 at the Salle Cortot in Paris. Performing in a concert hall that is considered a French historical landmark located in the heart of Paris was a dream come true for Nuojun. To have performed on the prestigious circular stage with beautiful paneling that many well-known artists have played, the Salle Cortot is one of Nuojun’s crowning performances

Nuojun Wang's success is a testament to the power of dedication and resilience. She has illuminated a path for aspiring musicians, proving that with passion and perseverance, one can create music that reverberates around the world, transcending boundaries of race, ethnicity, gender, and religion. From the intimate corners of Shenyang to the prestigious stages of Salzburg, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, and the city of Love, Paris, Nuojun continues to master the score of life, one note at a time.
