The power of writing is often hard to grasp. Little black marks written on a blank sheet can cause a rollercoaster of emotions — love, hate, anger, happiness. These little strokes can change the world. More importantly, they can tell stories that influence generations. William Shakespeare was a master of this, and his tale of Romeo and Juliet has been retold time and time again, often reflecting changes in how people interpret their experiences.
Montblanc is releasing its Meisterstück Romeo & Juliet Collection, paying tribute to the writer’s arguably most famous work with a pair of beautifully crafted pens featuring symbolic details and the company’s signature craftsmanship that has inspired writing since 1906.
Both fountain pens display several features that directly reference Shakespeare’s masterpiece, bringing themes of love and fate to the forefront of conversation. Romeo’s words, “O speak again, bright angel!” are symbolized in the feathers on Juliet’s lid and reflect his ethereal view of Juliet. Leaves surround Romeo’s lid and draw from Act II, Scene II, when Juliet professes her love for Romeo in the Capulet orchard. Thorns are perched above each and refer to the danger of the pair’s affair, caused by the family feud between the Montagues and Capulets. A hint of red sits on the tip of the cap and recalls the color of love, passion and danger, all of which make the story a timeless classic. Etched into the pens’ nib is a motif of a dagger through a heart, illustrating the tragedy of their passion.
