DJ Manu Miran presents Jake Kale with his birthday cake

Cobra Lily marked its seventh year with a high energy celebration in Hollywood that felt less like an anniversary party and more like a fully realized cultural moment. Held at Plaza Nightclub, one of Los Angeles’ oldest gay bars, the night doubled as a birthday celebration for founder Jake Kale and brought together the city’s intersecting worlds of fashion, nightlife, art, and design.

Rather than leaning into nostalgia or overt branding, the event was built around immersion. Cobra Lily transformed the space with chrome floral installations and environmental styling that reframed the familiar Plaza interior into something futuristic, reflective, and visually charged. The result was a setting that felt playful yet intentional, grounding the celebration in the studio’s signature blend of structure, irreverence, and spectacle.

The evening’s programming reflected Cobra Lily’s deep ties to performance and nightlife culture. Katya of RuPaul’s Drag Race made a special appearance and performance with Astor Yang, while DJ sets from Star Amerasu and Manu Miran carried the night well past midnight. Known for pulse driven melodic techno, Miran shifted gears for the occasion, spinning EBM, jersey, trap, and club, while Amerasu delivered electro infused pop remixes that kept the dance floor tightly packed throughout the night.

Guests moved through the space sampling specialty desserts from Brady’s Bakery, Chariot LA, and Brute Botanical, alongside unexpected details that added to the night’s surreal energy. Silver trays of Pink’s hot dogs circulated through the crowd, chrome floral balloons by Samuel Keamy-Minor floated overhead, and Cecil the Sad Clown roamed the room offering emotional support and irreverent balloon creations. Photography by Zach Stahl and David Miller-Robinson captured the night’s raw, celebratory energy as rain poured outside, heightening the sense of intimacy and release inside.

The guest list reflected Cobra Lily’s unique position at the intersection of queer culture, independent fashion, and nightlife. Creatives and executives from Netflix, Apple, and Disney mixed with designers, artists, and drag icons including Salina Estitties, Naomi Smalls, Farrah Moan, Gottmik, Violet Chachki, and Marko Monroe. Fashion figures such as August Gonet, William Ramseur, and Dennis Haynes were also in attendance, reinforcing the studio’s reach across industries and disciplines.

Founded in Los Angeles, Cobra Lily is a queer owned floral design studio that pushes flowers beyond traditional arrangements into the realms of art, fashion, and cultural production. The studio has collaborated with brands and artists including Marvel, Disney, Taylor Swift, Soho House, West Elm, David LaChapelle, Nadia Lee Cohen, Apple, and Spotify, and has been featured in Vogue, The New York Times, and Rolling Stone. Its work spans large scale installations, editorial and commercial projects, and experiential environments that merge natural materials with bold visual storytelling.

Seven years in, Cobra Lily’s anniversary felt less like a milestone and more like a statement of momentum. The night celebrated community, collaboration, and creative freedom, underscoring the studio’s ongoing role in shaping how floral design shows up in contemporary culture. Cobra Lily is not simply marking time. It is continuing to redefine it.
