Ch3ls brings the amplifiers and kicks the volume to eleven on the intense “Hellbound.” Still incorporating her signature bluesy cadence into the work, there is a nightmarish cadence to how it all unfurls. The band does an excellent job of propelling her voice to the sky. Vocals have a gripping presence to them, and she truly belts it out at her absolute best. Inside the sound, the band seems to tear itself apart. Dramatic flourishes, like the guitars screaming overhead and the martial rhythm, add to the poignancy. In fact, by taking a hard rock ethos, she even touches upon industrial elements.

Buildup on here does not exist. She throws the listener headfirst into the epic jam. The song expands out into the infinite. A tortured sensibility radiates throughout the entire thing. Nothing is held back. The evolution of the atmosphere results in this intoxicating presence, one that swirls about in this wild, cacophonous fashion. Metallic glimmers emerge from the impeccable riffs that reign down on everything in their path. Quite symphonic in a certain sense, the work makes steady progress in crafting a universe with a living, breathing quality. This sense of feeling trapped is prevalent within the lyricism and sound, highlighting its despondency.

“Hellbound” revels in the exquisite poetry of Ch3ls, though this is more of the Edgar Allen Poe variety than the pastoral calm of Robert Frost.
