As he goes from strength to strength with each new release, Bo Blitz has shared his latest single, ‘Starships,’ one of his most significant single drops.

‘Starships’ caps off an incredible 2023 for the Bay Area artist, who is widely regarded as one of the most exciting voices in rap today. Blitz has made a name for himself this year by sharing a series of excellent singles - such as ‘Talk To Me Nicely’ and ‘What It Do’ - as well as by teaming up with big-name producers like “Cosmo” from Wiz Khalifa’s Tailor Gang and “Anno Domini” from Anno Domination.

Much of Bo Blitz’s recent success in 2022 and 2023 has come from himself and his team, learning the ins and outs of the music business. The artist, who is already something of an underground hero, took a gamble that many in the industry badly needed to hear rap music that is fresh, articulate, and real.

As his profile grows and his streaming numbers increase, that gamble is paying off…Blitz sounds more assured than ever in his most recent songs, with this trend continuing on ‘Starships.’

On this latest track, Blitz is more ambitious and hungrier for self-actualization than we’ve ever heard him be. His voice sounds strong as he bursts out several quickfire rap verses, confidently swaggering over a futuristic, cosmic beat. Listeners are treated to Blitz rhyming off his hopes and aspirations for himself and his race (“First man on Mars was a black man from Brooklyn”) as humanity’s eyes move beyond our planet into what lies beyond it…

With a rapper’s ingenuity and playfulness, he combines the cosmic themes in the song with an innate gangsta rap mentality. He tells us: “My starship is decked out,” then says he’ll be “Pulling up on asteroids/Speeding through the illest voids.” He also raps about the women he’ll meet as an intergalactic globe-trotter, playing on the double meaning of ‘stars’ as he jokes about journeying with a star-eyed woman who wants to “travel [with] the stars.”

As well as intelligent lyrics, ‘Starships’ is one of Blitz’s most intelligently produced songs. There are big, spacey synth sounds, otherworldly drum and bass lines, excellent use of keyboard riffs, and programmed, sampled backing vocals; all of this gives the song a celestial/electronic dance vibe, taking it from being a mere rap song to a bona fide stadium-sized banger.

You get the sense that Blitz is now at a stage in his career where ‘stadium-sized music’ is precisely what he’s after. Looking back over his latest releases, Blitz has taken notes from fellow hip-hop legends from history. With that in mind, ‘Starships’ feels like Blitz tearing a few pages out of Kanye West’s playbook, especially from Ye’s Graduation album era.

Like everything Bo Blitz does, ‘Starships’ is exciting, clever, and endlessly enjoyable. Don`t sleep on this artist for a second.
