Spitfire rapper Maal offers a lighthearted and fun music video alongside his foot-tapping track, “M6 Bimmer”. The artist, also known as Maal a Goomba—real name Jamaal Rashad Washington—doesn’t just stick to his musical roots, but also shows off his directing chops.
The Lawrence, Kansas native imagines a world in which he exists in multiples. However, many of the tracks on his upcoming mixtape _Butane_ takes an unflinching look at the world, depicting a realistic look at politics and the world today.
The song “Young Refugee” takes a harsh look at the destructive policies that migrant families face at the southern US border. Maal reflects on the country’s punitive judicial system, telling the tale of his uncle who was sentenced to 25 years in prison for a shoplifting charge, due to the legal system’s three strike policy. Maal points out the glaring similarities between those subjected to mass incarceration and families torn apart at the border.
