Deceptive, shaded and perhaps transcendent, creative director of LUAR, Raul Lopez, spent his adolescence disguising his sexuality. Utilizing metrosexuality as a means of access to acceptance, Lopez translates the nuance and fluidity of metrosexuality with LUAR in its Fall Winter 2024 collection titled “Deceptionista.” Ballet flats, manicures, tight blouses, the deceptionista has revealed himself.
Metrosexuality, a term coined in 1994, describes men who enjoy activities that society interprets as inherently feminine. The new LUAR line melds the history of metrosexuality with brand motifs to bring light to the wavering expectations of masculinity and the evolution of idealized male aesthetics throughout history. Lopez posits that there is irony in the Deceptionista as modern society now encourages an androgynous male aesthetic.
In addition to its statement pieces, the show introduced LUAR BASICS, a seasonless line of everyday street style pieces that fuse comfort and style.
