Paul Sietsema | Matthew Marks Gallery

by Flaunt Magazine

Matthew Marks Gallery is breaking ground in New York on September 13 for a unique show with a classic spin. It will feature a collection of new paintings, drawings, and art of various mediums, along with a couple of films directed by Paul Sietsema. The gallery drew inspiration from a 2016 Los Angeles exhibition which was claimed to be “one of the best gallery exhibitions of the season”, so we can only expect great works from this opening.

When entering the gallery, one can expect to not only see intriguing paintings, but also giant bits of torn Euros that are painted over pieces of abstract art. Paul Sietsema also displays an oil painting of a dial telephone which is used to set the backdrop for his overarching theme and work. These pieces are meant to keep art alive and relevant in society in contrast to our addiction to smart phones.
