Actor and artist Quincy Brown is odd, and proud to be it. Both on and off camera, he is enthusiastic, personable, a natural charmer, and a quick learner. Most importantly, Quincy is unquestionably himself. Inspired by his upbringing in the music industry yet self-motivated by his own creativity and passion, Quincy is not looking for easy success, embracing hard work with determination, positivity, and a humble attitude. And he’s sure to have a good time, not to discredit his professional demeanor or his serious work ethic. Quincy is currently working on the drama series _Star_ and hoping to focus on his music career this upcoming year.

**How has working on Star helped you develop your acting skills and method?**
QB: Being on a tv show like this… it put me in the real actor mode…Really, you just have to be present and just _be._ There’s a lot of talking and listening involved. The camaraderie of the cast—Queen Latifah, Benjamin Bratt—and working with Lee Daniels…\[there\] really wasn’t room for error, which always kept me on my p’s and q’s daily. Even in a day when you may not have many scenes, but that one scene…and we give each other that type of energy.
**What advice might you give to young people who look towards taking acting as a career?**
QB: It all starts with originality, you know me? You can be inspired…by a million things…you have to be able to know who you are, before anything. There are a lot of influences out there and sometimes its gets a little overwhelming…but everybody got to where they are because something about them was more original than a copy of something else. There’s not room for two of the same thing. And I think it really just starts with you and your passion. You want a real response, you got to give a real effort; people want real responses from half-assed efforts.

**Can you tell me a bit more about your music? How would you define your style?**
QB: You know with the acting…I can be five, six, seven different people. But with the music…the music is me… It’s very expressive, and I got a very intimate connection with how I can translate…into my music…my personality and what I’m feeling. And I do it in a very fun way. My style is very personable…it has a lot of personality, but realness, you know? There’s truth.
**Where do you derive your creative inspiration?**
QB: I’ve been growing up in the industry \[and\] learning. I was a little student for free, you know, dealing with my upbringing…I got to see a lot of things… certain things that people might f\*ck up and do along the way, I saw that out before I was able to go through that, so I knew what _not_ to do, which was important because now as an artist, and who I am, my music is going to be a way of getting to know me. A huge outlet. I see myself like a puzzle. People tell me I'm a little odd…it’s all great compliments to me.

**With your upbringing and your fathers’ success in music, how are you coming into your own as an artist?**
QB: If you live life around your family and you are in this industry, you are going to pick up certain things as a family. But still, every individual in the family is different, you know… If you are talking as a family, you know, that’s one conversation…but if you want to break it down, that’s really the fun in it all because, you know, I am the odd one. Call me that! That’s for sure.
**I’m curious to hear more about your mother and your maternal grandmother, two important women who I know you’ve mentioned in the past.**
QB: My upbringing was…it was all over the place because my mom was a model fresh out of high school… she moved to NY to start her modeling career…and got pregnant with me…my lovely grandmother provided a lot of help. Once my mother had me, we moved down to Georgia so she could continue modeling and I think that Southern upbringing really…planted who I am as a person.

**Southern upbringing?**
QB: It was very family oriented…the chores we had, the rules we had to follow…it was the family way. It definitely was different than LA, different than NY. It’s very… I wouldn’t call it simple, but \[there’s\] really not much distractions. I was focused…just living my going-to-school life, no extras involved \[and\] there was no social media. I was really just in-tune with what was going on in what I could reach…I wasn’t influenced by much outside my family.
**If you could have one superpower, what would it be?**
QB: Honestly, I need to mind read. Because as bad as it could be, it could be just as good. It’s definitely a gift and a curse that superpower…and people is crazy.

**Is there anything we haven’t talked about that you want the world to know about you?**
QB: I really want the world to start paying attention…because the music is coming…that’s my goal this year, to get out as much music as possible, so there is \[no question of my\] taking this seriously. I really want people to understand why I do it…a lot of people may think I do the music because both my Dads are in the music…but \[it’s\] what I'm really passionate about.
**So where is your passion rooted, if not coming from your fathers?**
QB: I see the influence I have…I see the big influence…But I want people to know, I’m doing it for myself… and once you do things for yourself and you see the response from the outside, it just makes you want to be yourself even more…And I can tell anybody if they’ve put their mind to something but \[they’ve\] slacked and half-assed it: put your all into it, you’ll see the difference. It’s immediate. It’s immediate, the difference.
