Daniel Caesar Delivers Raw Performance at the Fonda in LA
"We Love You Danny."
That's not only what the tote bags at Daniel Caesar's merchandise stand read, but what a sold out crowd screamed throughout an hour-long set at the Fonda Theatre on Tuesday (Oct. 31).
When I showed up to the venue 45 minutes before the doors opened I was shocked to see the line wrapped around the corner block of Hollywood Boulevard and Gower Street. I knew the Toronto R&B star sold out two shows in LA, but the fans wrapped around the block this early before the show? Crazy. This guy is for real.
Songstress Snoh Aalegra slayed a half-hour set accompanied by her band and a neon sign with the title of her freshly debuted album Feels splashed across a screen in yellow font. She delivered cuts from her project and even spent 10 minutes of her set doing a capella classics, including a refreshing take on Travis Scott's "Goosebumps."
Then came Daniel Caesar, guitar in hand to perform almost the entirety of his ground-breaking Freudian album that released in August. The star, whose album is already certified gold, played "We Find Love" and "Best Part" before serenading the crowd with arguably his biggest single "Get You" in his encore that wrapped up shortly before midnight.
If the night wasn't special enough, Daniel brought out Syd of The Internet to perform "Take Me Away" and Charlotte Day Wilson to contribute to "Transform."
Although it was Halloween it was all love under the roof of the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood. Caesar's soothing vocals and eclectic energy contributed to one of the best and most raw performances I've ever seen.
Freudian is available on all streaming platforms and be sure to check out photos from Daniel's Nov. 1 Fonda performance above.
