In February 2018 we endured the passing of a musical talent, Johann Johannsson. However, this Fall we have the opportunity to witness Johannsson’s final work in the film Mandy. The original motion picture soundtrack for Mandy was created as an original score by Johannsson right before his death.

The full album is set to release September 14th, seven months after Johannsson’s passing. Johann Johannsson began the process of creating this score in 2016, originally only knowing that it was for a horror film starring Nicholas Cage. Johannsson reportedly viewed this as a great next step in his career and a chance to round out his previous musical compositions into a diverse portfolio. The score was being worked on up until the film was submitted to Sundance Film Festival in January 2018. The score was co-produced by Johannsson himself alongside Randall Dunn.

The soundtrack album was assembled in March 2018 with the help of film co-producers Pepijn Caudron and Yair Glotman, though Johannsson was already passed during this time.

The film, Mandy, directed by Panos Cosmatos and starring Nicolas Cage, will also be released on September 14th.  The film was produced by SpectreVision, XYZ Films, and Umedia with support from Legion M. When seeing the haunting film, be sure to note how the eerie sounds Johannsson created set the scene for the horror that is the film Mandy.
