Logic Uses VMAs to Bring Awareness to Mental Health
One of the most emotional moments of the 2017 VMA’s came from Sir Robert Bryson Hall, more commonly known as Logic. This rapper is known for his serious lyrics with heavy themes of politics, identity, and racism. His performance of "1-800- 273-8255," his biggest hit yet, brought the whole audience together and brought viewers across the world to tears.
"1-800- 273-8255" is the song's title, but it is also the number of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. After its release in April, the lifeline stated that it had experienced
27% more calls than weeks prior. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline also noted that
multiple callers had mentioned Logic’s song when calling.
At this weekend's Video Music Awards Logic performed it with featured artists
Alessia Cara and Khalid and filled the stage with dozens of suicide attempt survivors
wearing shirts that read “You are not alone.”
He ended his performance by addressing the audience and the VMA’s, to thank them for giving him the platform to spread positivity and awareness of mental health. Were you moved by Logic’s emotional performance? Should more artists use their platforms to shed light to mental health?
