Levi's celebrates 145 years of the 501 jean
To commemorate Mr. Levi Strauss inventing maybe the most important fashion staple to date, the 501 jean, Levi's launches a collaboration with stylist Karla Welch and her brand, x karla. The Levi's x karla 501 line is a collection of nine pieces that are based on the classic 501 jean or other classic Levi's patterns. Karla looked towards her past and future as inspiration for the collection which included her love of the Dallas Cowboy's cheerleaders (I'll let you guess which piece stemmed from that) and thinking about those future cool teens on Mars. “I wanted to imagine what the future of vintage was,” says Welch. “If people inhabit Mars 200 years from now, what are the kids going to wear? This idea of creating something that would eventually become an iconic piece of vintage clothing is the basis of the whole collection.”
The campaign features all female starlets: Amber Heard, Amber Valletta, Hailey Baldwin, Yara Shahidi, Michelle Monaghan, Busy Philipps, Sarah Paulson, Holland Taylor, Tracee Ellis Ross, America Ferrera, SZA, Courtney Eaton, Ke’Andra Samone, Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild & Kimberly Schlapman, Karen O, Lisa Love, SoKo, Erica Cloud, Angela Davis, Carolyn Murphy, Mackenzie Davis, Natalie Manuel Lee, Judy Greer, Laura Brown, Yael Cohen Braun, Clementine Welch, Sophie Reed, and Levi’s® Karyn Hillman and Jen Sey. With the launch of the collaboration, Levi's will be making a donation to Everytown, in support of gun safety. The collection will be available for purchase on 501 Day, May 20th. What better way to celebrate an 145th birthday than with mega act performances by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, SZA, Ms. Lauren Hill, and a DJ set by Samantha Ronson. Wednesday's bash at the Hollywood Palladium kicked off with an outstanding performance by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs where they literally made it rain with Y shaped confetti covering the floor 3 inches deep. SZA's angelic voice inspired the audience so much so that a fan threw her an entire bag of weed on stage! DJ Samantha Ronson kept the crowd dancing until Ms. Lauren Hill came on stage to give a show stopping performance that had the whole room signing. It was a memorable night that everyone (check out the gallery to see just who exactly) came out to celebrate their favorite closet staple, the 501 Jeans' birthday.
