LA based artist [Keith Mayerson](http://www.keithmayerson.com/) has been living and working in the [East Hampton house](https://elainedekooninghouse.org/about/) of the late abstract expressionist and figurative expressionist painter, [Elaine de Kooning](https://www.guggenheim.org/artwork/artist/elaine-de-kooning) all summer long. In efforts to keep de Kooning’s legacy alive, Mayerson has been channeling her energy into a series of paintings inspired by the artist, her friends and family, and the community around her home.  “My American Dream”, Photographed by Katherine McMahon Courtesy of Marlborough ![“My American Dream”, Photographed by Katherine McMahon Courtesy of Marlborough](https://assets-global.website-files.com/62ee0bbe0c783a903ecc0ddb/6472b8c619eebd895aa0c5b5_Flaunt%2BKeith%2BMayerson%2BJalyn%2BEaton%2B9.jpeg) “My American Dream”, Photographed by Katherine McMahon Courtesy of Marlborough In his project, “My American Dream”, Keith Mayerson expresses a deep respect and admiration for Elaine de Kooning as well as her friends, all women who actively changed American history. Mayerson writes,  _Coming to the residency, I decided to approach Elaine and her circle as another chapter in the narrative, these great heroes that strove and succeeded to change history, the women of which are finally beginning to get their due. Starting at Elaine’s tombstone at the fabled Green River Cemetery in the Springs, I painted en plein air to pay my respects. Then, in situ in the studio, I’m painting her image in the place she last worked, wonderfully kept exactly the same as the image from the 80’s, her figure almost a ghost in front of me as I worked._  On Saturday, August 10th, Keith Mayerson will hold a live painting demonstration on Sammy’s Beach with the Beach Painting Club from 1:30 to 4:30pm. * * * Photographed by Katherine McMahon Courtesy of Marlborough
