Today would have been Notorious B.I.G's 46th birthday. As if to certify that the legendary rapper has not lost his hold on the culture, the first trailer for the new thriller _City of Lies,_ starring Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker, has been released.  The trailer portrays an action-packed investigation into Biggie's still-unsolved death taking place in a stunningly colorful yet gritty late-90's Los Angeles. In a world of gang violence, rapper feuds, and police corruption two men are struggling in their fields, each highly motivated and working to get themselves out of their respective holes. Depp takes a spin as Russell Poole, the real LAPD detective involved in the Biggie case, while Forest Whitaker plays a struggling journalist searching for the truth. Based on the Russell Sullivan's non-fiction book, LAbyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., the film is set to release on September 7th of this year. The trailer also nicely features a track off Biggie's 1997 album, _Life after Death_, "You're Nobody (Til Somebody Kills You)". It's an eerie coincidence. But Biggie didn't need to die to become an icon—his music was enough. * * * Written by James McClune
