Issa Rae Is Officially a CoverGirl

by Robyn Merrett

Insecure’s Issa Rae is the newest face of Covergirl. This will be the first beauty gig for the multi-talented writer, director, actress and producer. Rae made the announcement through an Instagram photo this morning and we couldn’t be happier.

She captioned the post “I remember being an awkward black girl in high school, reading the pages of my favorite magazines, casually flipping through @COVERGIRL ads, singing their slogan in my head. Never EVER in my life did I imagine I’d be one. I am SO honored and SO excited for what’s to come."

Rae embodies all the beauty brand represents, COVERGIRL explained in a press release: “With her characteristic wit and charm, unique observations on life and culture, and outspoken but relatable nature, Issa truly embodies the COVERGIRL spirit of inclusive self-expression, inspiring people to embrace what makes them unique and confidently represent to that world.”

Rae gained stardom with her web series Awkward Black Girl which led to the creation of Insecure, which recently aired its season two finale on HBO. She made history as the first black woman to create and star in a scripted series for the premium cable channel. Rae is also is the author of New York Times best-selling memoir, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, which was published in 2015.

It’s only the beginning for this #GIRLBOSS and we can’t wait to see what’s next. Lookout for more information on her COVERGIRL campaign.
