An unlikely contender for the role, the once behind-the-scenes designer earned his rightful place there quickly, coming out with a successful menswear collection less than a month after being in his new position. Since then, the Roman has become a design visionary and ushered in an era of growth at the house. For Michele's latest project, Gucci and British department store [Harrods](https://www.harrods.com/en-gb) have teamed up to produce Gucci’s first DIY line for the UK. This isn't the first time Gucci is offering such an option to their customers—the project is the brainchild of Michele, and came to Milan first in June 2016. Michele has kept his promise that DIY Gucci would eventually go global. At Harrods, customers can personalize their products with decorative patches, allowing for the opportunity to play with their own creativity à la Alessandro Michele. The patches come in a variety of colors, styles, and sizes, including a Harrods exclusive butterfly patch. ![](https://assets-global.website-files.com/62ee0bbe0c783a903ecc0ddb/6472ae427110264cbe27bae3_image-asset.jpeg) Harrods will also host Gucci Bloom, Michele’s debut fragrance for women. The line began on July 31 and will run until the end of August. * * * Written by: Brianna Di Monda
