eBay for Charity Auctions off Cindy Sherman Float

by Intern Flaunt

This summer’s heat wave has us thinking about lounging by the pool all day. To keep you cool this summer, eBay for Charity is auctioning off a one-of-a-kind signed Cindy Sherman pool float. EBay shoppers can bid on the item from July 19th – 29th with 100 percent of the proceeds going to +POOL, a nonprofit movement to bring a self-filtering pool to New York City. In collaboration with eBay’s new store, Third Drawer Down, the pool float bid starts at .99 cents. The 5.5-foot, metallic silver float also comes with a personalized tile that will be installed at the pool, a Cindy Sherman printed canvas tote bag with her moto “I’d Rather be Swimming”, and the chance to be the first to test the waters when the pool opens. EBay shoppers can also buy an unsigned version of the float for $250, which comes in a printed swim bag as well.

Sherman, who is known for creating art based on the idea of breaking society’s beauty and culture standards, decided to feature a portrait on the other side of the float that was accidentally crafted when two of her portraits merged together. Art lovers and city swimmers alike should definitely have their wallets open when the bidding starts at 9 AM Pacific time.

Through filtering river water into clean, chemical-free water, +POOL hopes to provide a safe swimming space for the city. +POOL aims to create a recreational resource of New Yorkers, while informing the public on water quality issues. Cindy Sherman has been supporting +POOL since 2016 and you can too by visiting pluspool.org.
