The IMG model is also a senior studying in upstate New York as a film major. Her combined passions for film and fashion create the ultimate weapon of visually appealing content. While she was born in San Francisco and raised in Paris, Amalie has called Tivoli, NY home over the course of her academic career. From a young age, she has traveled quite frequently, photographed all over the map for fashion week in NYC, Paris, Los Angeles, and so on. Juggling jet lag, film studies, and unique styling, Amalie keeps her cool in an effortlessly chic manner. One day in couture, and the next in menswear sweats, Gassmann continuously documents her diversified style. We took a trip upstate, visiting Gassmann’s apartment to get a behind-the-scenes look at her wardrobe and talk all things, à la mode: * * * **_What are your favorite brands/ designers at the moment?_** Alyx, Etudes, Marine Serre, Rokh, Warren Lotas, I am Gia the Label, Y/Project, Off-White, Saint Luis for vintage pieces, Kim Jones for Dior and Raf Simons.  **_From your archive of fashion moments, what is one of your most memorable looks?_** My favorite fashion moments have been my Dior look for their Dior Ball in Paris and my recent outfit I wore to the Off-White Men’s show.  Left: Dior Ball, Right: Off-White Men's Show \[Credit: cgstreetstyle\] ![Left: Dior Ball, Right: Off-White Men's Show [Credit: cgstreetstyle]](https://assets-global.website-files.com/62ee0bbe0c783a903ecc0ddb/6472b2b3d869492e226abff2_Screen%2BShot%2B2018-08-14%2Bat%2B1.39.36%2BPM.png) Left: Dior Ball, Right: Off-White Men's Show \[Credit: cgstreetstyle\] **_If you could time travel to any period in history for the fashion movement, what would it be and why?_** I would choose the 60s fashion. There were the most elegant and effortless fashion icons like Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin and also my favorite for her quirky style Edie Sedgwick.  DSCF1798.jpg ![DSCF1798.jpg](https://assets-global.website-files.com/62ee0bbe0c783a903ecc0ddb/6472b2b3d869492e226ac007_DSCF1798.jpeg) **_Tell us about your favorite item of clothing._**  My favorite must be my Kaws bomber jacket in collaboration with Mira Mikati; I don’t wear it too often because of how colorful it is but a great statement piece if I am wearing all black. I also adore my Y/Project piece with embroidered red roses; It’s great to wear over long dresses or if I want to make a look more casual and laid back. I also recently bought the Gucci chunky sneakers in black, and they are now a must for me.  ![](https://assets-global.website-files.com/62ee0bbe0c783a903ecc0ddb/6472b2b3d869492e226abffb_image-asset.jpeg) **_You travel quite frequently. How does this influence your outlook on the fashion industry?_** I travel a lot to Paris for Men’s and Women’s fashion week. When I am there my looks are more calculated and put together; I love discovering new designers and wearing their pieces. Being there for fashion week pushes me to step up my game with my outfits and makeup looks. I love it! When I am in LA my style is edgier, I take more fashion risks and show more skin but when I am in New York I am usually in all black, and I tone it down. So what I can say is that my style changes from place to place and is continuously changing.  **_Who are your fashion icons?_** I don’t have fashion icons, but I do get inspiration from menswear, street style, and my friends.  **_You’re a frequent fashion week attendee, what is that experience like?_** I have been attending fashion shows since I was eleven, Paris being my main fashion week.  I love bumping into people from the industry that I’ve known for a while now, and it feels like one big reunion. I am very thankful to have attended the shows I’ve been able to go to, and I always get excited to see what is next in fashion. It’s crazy busy for me, somedays I have three shows and need to change multiple times, shoot the looks, followed up with showroom visits and then events in the evening. It is stressful, but I love it though.  DSCF1868.jpg ![DSCF1868.jpg](https://assets-global.website-files.com/62ee0bbe0c783a903ecc0ddb/6472b2b3d869492e226ac00b_DSCF1868.jpeg) **_You have a relatively strong relationship with the trendy fast-fashion company, I Am Gia. What’s your relationship with the brand like, and how do the clothes reflect your style?_** I’ve had the chance to work with Gia since day one; I remember they reached out to me when their Instagram only had mood board pictures before they officially launched the clothing. Alana, the designer, is a dear friend of mine and I love supporting her and the brand. With my edgy and bold style, Gia just seemed like a perfect fit, and now they are my go-to brand. The Gia girl is a risk taker, tough but flirtatious at the same time.  **_In addition to being a fashion influencer, you’re also a film student. How do film and fashion coexist?_** I am a very visual person so like my looks it reflects in the composition and aesthetic of my films. I pay close attention to every single detail and make sure it also makes sense as a whole.  ![](https://assets-global.website-files.com/62ee0bbe0c783a903ecc0ddb/6472b2b3d869492e226ac000_image-asset.jpeg) **_How would you describe your day-to-day style?_** Laid back, monochromatic and I often complete a simple look with a statement jacket, bag, and sneaker.  To see more about Amalie Gassmann click [here](https://www.instagram.com/amalie_gassmann/?hl=en). * * * Interview conducted and written by: Morgan Vickery Photographed by: Adair Smith
