_Blade Runner Black Out 2022_ is an animated short film that takes place in Los Angeles in 2022, serving as the middle story for its prequel _Blade Runner_ set in 2019 and its sequel _Blade Runner 2049_. Denis Vileneuve, director of _Blade Runner 2049_, revealed that he wanted the viewer to be informed about some key events that went down within next 30 years leading up to 2049, before the start of the short film.
The animated short was written and directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, the director who also brought us _Cowboy Bepop_ and _Samurai Champloo_.
