Sometimes it’s not about a grandiose album or EP release. Why can’t we just screw the process and focus on each individual song, perfecting the art to a T while still creating a signature sound? That is the mission of [BETWEEN FRIENDS](https://www.instagram.com/betweenfriends/), a dream-pop trio consisting of siblings Savannah and Brandon Hudson, and drummer Brennan Benko. In their new concept, Between Seasons, the chic bandmates have chose to release songs one by one, creating an evolution of sound like the changing of the weather. It’s a beautiful process, capsuled in Flaunt’s exclusive photos with the band, pictured above and shot by frequent Flaunt collaborator [Sean Behr](https://seanbehr.tumblr.com/). Flaunt’s video premiere of BETWEEN FRIENDS’ single “iloveyou” is the final piece in their release of the song, marking the beginning of a new season. Single number two, titled “better friends,” has yet to be released. Check out BETWEEN FRIENDS’ exclusive video content below and read about the origin of their name, creative differences, and what’s next. **You described your sound as DIY-pop in a recent interview and “laptop-dream pop.” What do you think of the genre that’s becoming ever more popular?** It’s really cool living in a time where there are less boundaries and boxes in this field of art. Growing up listening to pop radio, everything felt very isolated to one kind of thing. Now with streaming, kids can actually pick and listen to whatever shit they want. That really puts a good light on a lot of incredible artists coming up right now and helps us a lot.  We always wanted to create a sound of our own and obviously it takes a while to figure that out. Using the ears of our friends has been a huge help with crafting it honestly. We’ve been making music in our home studio (me, Savannah, and Brennan) collaborating with some of our close producer friends as well (Michel Lindgren, Bram Inscore). We’ll make something, feel it out, finish it, live with it for a second and then slide it into the queue when we are at parties and not tell anyone it’s us just to see a real reaction. No fake industry shit, but kids dancing and enjoying it. That’s really how we’ve chosen all of our upcoming releases. Everything has been entirely between friends.  **Where do you see your sound in the next five to ten years? How do you want to evolve?** We want to change with every project we create. The sound of this first batch of songs coming out now is a bit different than the sound of the next batch of songs that’ll come out around summer time, and that makes us really happy. Constant growth and evolution has been a goal forever and for us. We’ve tried to continually achieve it by never settling into anything we do, but elaborating onto it. Cohesive aesthetics are also pretty important when it comes to creating our sound. Having a palette we think is cool is definitely a big help when it comes to growing. We just have so many finished songs living in my computer. I really look forward to getting them all out.  **What was the vision behind “iloveyou”?** “iloveyou” was the first track we ever made for the BETWEEN FRIENDS project. It happened pretty randomly around summertime. We were reflecting on situations that had occurred between us and different groups of friends over the past couple of months. We were also thinking about change, artistic growth and progression as a project. We sat down with some gear and some wine, made a pretty rough demo, wrote for hours over it, brought it to a session in Silverlake the following week, and finished it.  I’ll never forget the first time we really listened to it though - we were overlooking LA from a lookout near Mulholland, it was around midnight and I kind of slipped it in through my friends car speakers. We listened full volume and our friends danced on the hill. That was really cool.  **What’s an aesthetic that you, or even each member, resonates with?**  We all can agree on a lot when it comes to art, which makes working together so nice. In terms of aesthetic, we have all been continuously inspired by California, New York City, the people that surround us, good cinema, and weird dance music. We also enjoy making mood boards for our project, as lame as that sounds, and over time we slowly start collecting different bits of that inspiration by collaborating with friends on visual content or production work. The internet is also such a wild source for new knowledge. Being in our late teens, we’ve learned a lot growing up with it.  **Are there any creative differences between the siblings?**  Not usually, I’d like to think we are on the same page the majority of the time. We find solid ground whenever we are clashing creatively. It’s a nice push really, finding a resolution that we all agree on. It makes everything we do feel like a puzzle that we can actually finish.  **How does Brennan fit with the sibling duo who have worked together for 12 years now? How did he meet the siblings?**  We met Brennan at one of our first ever LA shows several years ago. He came to see his friends who were playing that show with us and we all ended up hanging out after. We had an after party at one of our favorite places in the city called No Vacancy and he came through. We talked music/art and got along well. Over the course of a couple years we’ve toured all over the states together, played tons of shows, made music, and shot videos. It’s felt really cool to find someone that meshed so well with me and Sav because her and I have been working together forever. There is a really positive dynamic.  **Where did the band name come from? Have you ever watched the movie by the same title starring Elizabeth Taylor and Carol Burnett?** Oh yes, we watched the movie as soon as we settled on the name! We wanted to make sure if anyone asked we knew haha. The group name really came from what has been happening in our creative circle. Everything we do is between friends, if you’re listening to us it’s all between friends, our shows will always be between friends. We thought that was a solid representation of everything we want to stand for at this point in our lives.  **What’s next in your music chapter after the release of “iloveyou”?**  Lots of music and lots of content. New singles and videos every month, stuff we are really proud of. We really hope everyone enjoys. * * * Photographed by [Sean Behr](https://www.instagram.com/tornblackjeans/)
