An Art Tour Through Zurich This Weekend: Carlos Amorales, Steven Shearer and Nights at Atlantis by Giardino
New York Fashion Week is just around the corner, so we're determined to spend our last sane days in Switzerland. Today (September 1), renowned Dada art gallery Cabaret Voltaire will be hosting the public release of Cadence's cover artist Carlos Amorales' newest workings, entitled Learn to Fuck Yourself.
The drawings will serve as a commentary on today’s medieval style, boldly challenging the artistic performances, daily consumption and social interactions happening in Zurich. Amorales' Learn to Fuck Yourself will be a unique performative installation you won't want to miss.
After, we'll be hitting Galerie Eva Presenhuber to see the printed works of acclaimed Canadian artist Steven Shearer. The personal archive will include found photography, drawings, paintings, collages, and sculpture. In his drawings and paintings, Shearer combines the iconography found in these images with resemblances of different canonical styles, such as Fauvism, Symbolism or Western Renaissance.
Then, we'll call it a night at Atlantis by Giardino. Known for its breathtaking views of Uetliberg mountain, it once played host to numerous pop stars, from Grace Jones to Freddie Mercury to Frank Zappa. Be sure to get your nightcap aside the spectacular 25-meter outdoor pool with views of the mountain forests.
On Saturday (September 2), we will be paying a visit to Zurich staple, Galerie Peter Kilchmann, for solo artist Shirana Shahbazi's latest. On view are C-prints and lithographs that break the boundaries between abstraction and figuration, between photographic staging and the capturing of the fleeting moment.
See you there? Hope so.
