      [](#)[](#) Author Diane Ratican introduces her Angeleno spouse to her Parisian plaything in her new photo book _Why LA? Pourquoi Paris?_, which paints in 272 colorful pages illustrated by Eric Giriat (Paris) and Nick Lu (Los Angeles). Inspiration for the book, released in September 2017, comes from balancing a cosmopolitan life of transience, as Ratican resides in The City of Angels, but built up her fashion import and export business in La Ville Lumière.  An unlikely yet undeniable connection which has been previously linked in _Flaunt’s_ Oh La La Land issue, Ratican’s complementary tale of these two angelic and luminary cities, is smartly divided into seven sections of equivalent cultural totems. Lu and Giriat fairly split in tandem the section’s pages between the cities' blonde objects of infatuation: Marilyn Monroe to Brigitte Bardot, portrayals of urban playgrounds: Santa Monica Pier to Place de la Concorde, and high points: Hollywood Sign to Sacré-Coeur. GPS coordinates have been conveniently added to guide Francophiles and Angelenophiles alike through parallel urbane galaxies; similar in their differences.  _Why LA?
