The Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) was established in 1954 with a mission to showcase underrepresented LA artists whose work may not otherwise have found a platform. On October 25, LAMAG will be opening a timely group exhibition, _Here_ that examines physical, geographical, conceptual and imagined boundaries in Los Angeles. 16 artists come together to investigate LA’s internal boundaries as a way to pack the complexities of the city. Many of the artists on display have immigrated to the city and explore the themes of that migration through race, class and violence. The exhibition _Here_ suggests that boundaries present an interesting paradox citing political theorist William E. Connolly, “Boundaries provide pre-conditions of identity, individual agency, and collective action; but they also close off possibilities of being that might otherwise flourish. Boundaries both foster and inhibit freedom; they both protect and violate life.”   _Here_ will be on display at _LAMAG,_ 4800 Hollywood Boulevard from October 25, 2018 - January 6th, 2019. * * *
